Henry Augustus Buchtel papers 1872-1925

Henry Augustus Buchtel was one of the University of Denver's most distinguished chancellors. He served as Chancellor from 1899 to 1920, a time of growth and prosperity for the University. During his tenure the University's debt was paid and the endowment was increased. Four new buildings were built on the University Park campus--the Carnegie Library, the Gymnasium, the Science Building, and the Memorial Chapel. Buchtel was also a prominent figure in Colorado politics, serving as Governor of the State from 1907 to 1909.
